I have seen these as quick presets. The dark line of the boarder is clear to me in the images and I don't find the shadow confusing. I don't understand the meaning of the dashed boarder as no boarders is clearly no boarders.

The setting of a selected cell is best seen in Format>cells, Boarders tab, as boarders could be more complex than in the quick presets.
