I would also dearly like to open the template manager to allow me to create a new template or edit an existing one. What other ways exist? I have managed to save a template from an existing document, but I cannot edit such a template for the reason several times already described.

Suppose you create a document from an existing template, and then save a new template from that document (both of which processes you appear to be able to do). You would end up with a new template identical to the first. If you edit the document before saving the template from it, you get an edited version of the template.

Is this a workaround?

I trust this helps.
