Hi :)
At the bottom fo the normal find&replace dialogue box is a "More Options" or "Advanced Options" or 
"Further" or soemthing like that which expands teh dialogue-box to include more options.  I guess 
you have tried that already as i don't think it helps with the things you mention.  

I sometimes higlight an example of what i am looking for and do 
Ctrl C
to copy to the clipboard and then paste that into the Find box.  Sometimes it just puts whatever 
was selected straight into the Find box without me even havign to paste it but i'm not sure if 
LibreOffice does that.  It might do.  


I think McMurchy's plan to use the Extension to expand the capabilities of the find&replace really 
is the best plan because my little work-arounds are probably not enough for what you need

It's also worth havinga  quick look around at other Extensions because it really helps to tailor 
your version of Libreoffice for your requirements.  We all have different requirements.  
Extensions/Add-ons/Plugins help us all win without all of us having to compromise.
