I think that's the clue: whatever you are entering *will* be 
10-point, so the problem must be one of scaling.  Look at the zoom 
factor displayed at the right end of the Status Bar (at the foot of 
the window).  Does it say something like "20%"?  Change this to 100% 
to restore your spreadsheet to easy readability.

There are various ways to do this:
o  Drag the slider on the display just to the left of the zoom factor 
in the Status Bar.
o  Right-click the zoom factor and select an alternative value.
o  Double-click the zoom factor (or go to View | Zoom...) to open the 
Zoom & View Layout dialogue.

I think these are both because the cells *are* optimal size, but you 
are simply viewing them at too low a zoom factor.
