I'm transitioning from OO.o to LO. I've imported client .xls files, worked with them as .ods and had no problems. However, I discovered that opening a new spreadsheet displays the rows as thin slits and the columns as almost equally small spaces. The default font is 10pt, but the text entered is about 1 pt in size.

I think that's the clue: whatever you are entering *will* be 10-point, so the problem must be one of scaling. Look at the zoom factor displayed at the right end of the Status Bar (at the foot of the window). Does it say something like "20%"? Change this to 100% to restore your spreadsheet to easy readability.

There are various ways to do this:
o Drag the slider on the display just to the left of the zoom factor in the Status Bar.
o Right-click the zoom factor and select an alternative value.
o Double-click the zoom factor (or go to View | Zoom...) to open the Zoom & View Layout dialogue.

Looking in Tools -> Options I see nothing to set the default cell size in a new spreadsheet. Selecting the whole sheet (ctrl-a) and trying to format rows to optimal height and columns to optimal width does nothing.

I think these are both because the cells *are* optimal size, but you are simply viewing them at too low a zoom factor.

I trust this helps.
